Now more than ever we need to take care of our minds and I am still providing Counselling and Psychotherapy online via Zoom.
Thomas Smithson, MA, Dip.Couns, Dip.Super (MBACP)

Welcome, I’m Tom. I’m a therapist who works with adults looking to make meaningful changes in their lives. Many of the people I work with are dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, identity questions, low self-esteem, existential concerns, or are in the midst of major life changes. Others come to therapy to explore themselves more deeply, to challenge and change unhelpful behaviours, or to navigate parenting struggles.

I have particular experience supporting queer communities and neurodivergent individuals, and I tailor our work to meet your unique needs, wants and goals. This work is about helping you move forward, with greater clarity, understanding, and direction.

Therapy with me is focused, collaborative, and grounded in real-life experience. I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship - I believe real change happens when there’s trust, honesty, and genuine connection between us. You won’t get jargon or a blank face; you’ll get a real human who’s here to listen, reflect, and work with you. Whatever you’re facing, I’m here to help you navigate it.
Over the past nine years, I’ve provided more than 6,000 hours of therapy. My approach draws on a blend of therapeutic models, shaped by what works best for you.
My style of therapy integrates several theories and techniques, primarily Psychodynamic and Person Centred therapy. I can also incorporate elements of Existential Psychotherapy.
